Obama New Yorker Magazine Cover: Satire or Sabotage: Part 1

When I saw the cover of the most recent New Yorker Magazine I was stopped cold dead in my tracks.  It was unbelievable to me that a one of the most respected publications in the world would publish that cover.  The cover is wrong on so many levels that it would be impossible to cover them all.  The one area I will touch on is RESPECT, Senator Obama and his wife Michelle Obama, Esq. did not deserve to be disrespected in this manner! Both come from humble beginnings and worked their way to the top of their chosen professions and have campaigned hard over the past 2 years to earn the top spot in the Democratic party.  I know we don't live in a utopian society and don't expect him to receive special treatment for any reason but I do expect that publications such as the New Yorker to uphold a higher standard.  The New Yorker has said that the purpose of the cover is "satirize" all the misconceptions about the Obamas and the premise alone isn't a bad one but like this?  No matter how many times Senator Obama has professed his Christianity and no matter how many times Michelle Obama (and other prominent media figures) have clarified and accurately quoted her there are people who choose to believe they are unpatriotic Muslims.  I'm not even going to address the Muslim issue but to say you can be a Muslim and be as patriotic as a Christian, Jew, Buddist, etc.  I have been blessed to have opportunities and advantages that on paper at times amaze me.  Growing up my brother and I never heard "because you're black you cant" we heard "you can do anything you put your mind to".  We were never sheltered from the fact that because were black males we had to give 150% to anything we did but we never saw being black as an obstacle.  I am so thankful that our parents didn't allow or nurture that self defeating attitude because very rarely do I think "its because I'm black" or "it's because he or she is black".  Now there are times when it's obvious and there are times when I wonder "was that because I'm black"?   This is once of those cases where I am on the fence.  Would the New Yorker satirize John McCain's experience as a POW?I doubt it and they shouldn't.
