Jeff came down this weekend to run a marathon and as usual we got into one of screaming, cussing matches. This one was about Proposition 8. I watched Oprah Friday and there was portion of the show where she interviewed Melissa Etheridge and her domestic partner/wife Tammy Lynn Michaels. Surprisingly they had differing opinions on the vote in California about Proposition 8. Melissia and Jeffery are on the same page and I agree with Tammy Lynn Michaels. I like Tammy know that I have relatives who would have voted against it, not me but Proposition 8. It's not what I'd like to see but I understand change takes time and it's never quick enought. Where as Jefferey and Melissa are upset because they'd like the rights to be there now (and I agree, so would I). Now there is where Jeff and I start to scream. I pointed out that from Womens Sufferage to the Civil Rights Movement to the Gay Rights Movement none of these movements were done over night and they took time. We went had a heated exchange about this for a while, well actually I did most of the talking/yelling until Jeff told me to asked my Mom to join the conversation. She helped me understand Jeffs perspective when she said "what he hears" and "his perspective". I After I cussed him out and stormed out of the room I realized that even though we have a lot in common we also have different different backgrounds and experiences which have colored our opinions and perspectives. My experience has been change and progress happen over time and eventually there's a breakthrough. From what I gather Jeff's perspective is the rights should be there across the board and I agree. But since the worlds been spinning history proves opression is overcome with persistance, tolerance and time. So, Jeff and I will continue to have different perspectives on this subject. But true to the sick and twisted nature of our friendship after were done yelling and on the verge of ripping each others throats out we can always find something to laugh about. I pulled Skyy (Jason) in on our Blackberry chat (I LOVE Technology!) to keep things level (as possible) and for a different perspective.
