Laura Bush (Former First Lady) Supports President Obama

I have always been a fan of Laura Bush and have always felt she was glue and steady hand that held her family together. Not to mention she's a former Librarian, as the kid of a retired elementary school principal (and multiple family members and friends who are educators) I know first hand what educators go through.  Well today I'm sure she shocked her republican constituents when she expressed support and praise for President Obama during a CNN interview last night. I agree with her 100% that parents have the right to control what their parents see, but I do find it odd that most have NO IDEA what they're watching at home but are willing to make them miss the first day of school in order to monitor their viewing habits at school.

During the interview she did something that I think no one managed to do during the entire eight years of George W. Bush's presidency, humanized him. When asked when did she think about President Obama being labeled a socialist her response was (paraphrasing) "did I think it was fair when President Bush was being called names, no and it's not fair to President Obama."  In that second I realized something, no matter what I thought of his performance he's still a person and it immediately reminded me of the harsh criticism my Mother faced before she retired.

It was nice to non-partisan support for the new First Family and her praise for Michelle and her transition to the most visible position in the world for any woman/mother/wife.  It was also an shining example of civility that I think we ALL could learn from.  I hope her conservative counterparts don't being labeling her a traitor.

Kudos Laura Bush!
